The Terminator 11ish Miles

Sunday, 22nd February 2009

From a spectators point of view it was easy, well after an hours walk making my way to the white horse on the Westbury hillside. It was worthwhile just to see the pain etched on the faces of the runners climbing, some crawling and falling up the hillside, "Adrian" even the leaders were walking.

We arrived at the HQ which was in the school at Pewsey, me, Jill, Judith and Lin with plenty of time to spare and rest for my ears and head, after having to listen to three women yak, yak, yak, all the way from Timsbury, about anything from soaps, work, babies, they never stopped. After getting everyone rounded up and the mandatory photo-call, they were off, all 15 club runners.

As mentioned earlier I then headed for the hills, oh, not forgetting Ger, who also decided spectating was easier, after a little training run round the sports field. After a long walk and clambering up the hill by the Whitehorse, it wasn't long before the leaders appeared and to my surprise in third place was an old Somer runner, "Brian Penny" having a fantastic race, maintaining this position to the finish and he had a cold. I managed to stay on the hill to take some photo’s of many club runners, as you can see on our website gallery. Then I thought, I better make my way back nearer the finish to cheer in Jill and any other club runners coming in. Jill said she enjoyed it, but found it very hard and a challenging course and was surprised by the sting in the tail having to scramble up round the White Horse, 2 miles from the finish, oh and the river crossing which was a bit of a shock and bit deep for her little legs.

Everyone finished the race without any injuries, but I would think in a lot of pain and exhausted, which I thought would make it a much quieter trip home, however, I was wrong, but all I can say is they should have put more effort into there running. "ladies" We did have a casualty, Tracey, who was carrying an injury to her ankle from training at the club, but she managed to battle on through the pain with a very respectable time, as you can see from the results. We didn’t manage to walk away with any trophies, but well done to everyone. A fantastic turnout from Somer, roll on the Grizzly, see results and photo's on the website.

"Keep On Running"
