The "Tough Ten" or should I say the "Easy Ten" - one hill!! a steady 500m
climb up into the woods, which you do twice and the rest is flat, with a
little bit of sand at the start and finish. You couldn't say it was tough,
"try The Slaughterford!!" however a very well organised race, plenty of
marshals and water in more ways than one. It was a lovely sunny morning
again and after the mandatory photo call or two!! (thanks Julian) when we
found Duncan, I made my way to the start with Sue, as we got to the start
line - Sue disappeared under the tape to form up at "sub 60" point!!
(now we know how you get such a good start Sue) so I joined her, wishful
thinking. Just as we were about to get started all the ladies were
distracted by a bloke in a thong!! not a pretty site, well not for me
anyway, (see photo's attached).
After all that excitement we got started, a nice steady pace chatting away
to Sue (was this another ploy by the club ladies!) well it nearly worked
Sue, as you were only a few minutes behind me at the finish, well done.
As for the other club runners we didn't see them for dust, especially Roy!
who had another very good race coming in first for Somer, still plenty of
speed in those old legs yet Roy. Adrian had a hard run after his 18 miles
on Saturday, I’m not surprised, "well done" - getting in the miles for the
London marathon. I didn't see Richard, but well done, I hope you had a
good one, Well done Elaine! our new comer to the club a very good run for
her first Tough Ten and another good run from Duncan getting back to his
old form after his long lay off last year through illness. I managed to
battle round, running the hill both times and managing a decent time,
which was better than the Slaughterford, but as I said earlier, this
was a lot easier, oh! and had time to take a few photo's on route.
After a few more photo's at the finish, we made our way back to the HQ a
quick change and it was down the pub with Roy twisting my arm, desperate
for a pint of Guinness. Then with very tired legs it was of home just in
time to see the best game of rugby for many years, even though Ireland
did get beat.
"Keep On Running"
Chris
