The final summer Wobbler of 2007 was a cracker! Organized by Ger
and Adrian Wood from the Railway at Clutton. Again another good
turnout about 30 club members took part. I was taxied to the race
by Tessa! no scenic trip this time, as it was close to home.
As usual we milled around in the pub trying to work out the route
and predict our times. This should have been easy for me as I train
around the area quite often, but no! Ger was clever, fooling us with
her map and distance - 3.4 miles she said?? and I wasn't quite sure
at that stage exactly were I was going, (no comments please).
In the end I predicted 29.07 as my old comrade Roy had put down 28
something! as he always beats me??
We formed up in the usual heap around the front of the pub for the
briefing from Andy, follow the road into the woods white signs with
red arrows, more woods back onto the road to finish, but he forgot
to mention headlights! Oh! and the photographer Adrian on the bridge
in the field, also Ger who popped up in the woods running the opposite
way encouraging everyone on, although I did have a job to see her at
that stage, as it was pretty dark. For the first time ever I believe
no-one got lost, this was due to the excellent map, signage and route.
Although I do believe, Des was up to his old antics again, according
to ("Jean Gibbs"), this time he was entertaining the ladies with a,
"moonie" or was it the cows or even the, "bull" he was more interested
in? nice one Des! Then we had Sheila! making excuses again for bringing
up the rear and you can see the photo to prove it, really she just
wanted to finish in the dark, I always thought she was a bit of a night
owl, but seriously she hung back to help someone in distress,
"well done Shiela! always on duty".
As I come out of the woods, I was struggling and a bit worried as
there was no sign of Roy, however with half a mile to go he was in
sight, so I really had to use what stamina I had left to beat him
for the first time ever! in any race. Mind you I did suffer for it
afterwards, with my hamstring playing up half way round and when I
sat down for food and a pint. However the pain was soon forgotten,
when Tessa made the best offer I have had in a long time! asking me
to drink up as she wanted to go to bed. Then it was down to the
presentation for the race and the summer series, I'm sorry but I
can't remember the results, I don't know if it was the drink, or
Tessa's offer! anyway you can see the overall results in the results
section on the website. Oh! and a big thank you to Marion for taking
some photo's for me.
All in all a great Wobbler well planned and organized, however do
you think we are loosing are way ("or not! as the case may be"),
not forgetting the objective of the Wobblers is to get lost, or so
Duncan would have us believe. So how about we have your views on the
subject, "are we loosing the objective" have your say with a forum,
if Craig can be so kind to set one up? roll on the winter series.
