Club Championship

The 2018 Club Championship consists of 24 club nominated races (12 road and 12 off-road). 6 of these races must be completed in order to qualify for the Championship. If more than 6 races are completed, the runner’s best 6 will count In the event of a tie on points, the average age-graded percentage over those 6 best races will count. A bonus point will be awarded to anyone competing 9 or more races, 1 point per race up to a maximum of 3 bonus points.

The races are selected by the club, and will be approved by the committee each year. The races selected try to create a wide range of competition against club members, over a variety of distances and terrain and to encourage members to participate in local races, without creating a demanding or expensive race schedule.

These races are scored on an age graded basis that enables performance to be gauged without bias to age or gender. Points are rewarded for each race. 50 points will be awarded for the best age graded performance for each race, with 49 for second, 48 for 3rd, and so on.

Rules

The club championship is open to all fully paid-up first claim members only.

All competitors must enter the race as affiliated to Somer AC. You must be wearing a Club vest, t-shirt, or long sleeved shirt bearing the Somer AC logo and name.

You must have an official number in your name, for the selected race in which you are competing. Runners are responsible for organising their own entries to all races – No member of the committee will assist in obtaining race entries. Please be aware that some of the more popular races do reach limits early.

6 of these races must be completed during the year in order to qualify for the Championship. In the event of two races being completed in any one month, only the best age graded performance will count towards championship points.  If more than 6 races are completed, the runner’s best 6 will count In the event of a tie on points, the average age-graded percentage over those 6 best races will count.

Points will be awarded based on percentages calculated by the ‘Racemaster 98’ software. At the end of the competition, in the event of a tie on points, the winner will be the competitor with the highest overall average age-graded percentage over the six ‘best’ races used to calculate their points. A bonus point will be awarded to anyone competing 9 or more races, 1 point per race up to a maximum of 3 bonus points.

Races will only be changed under the following conditions:-

  • The race date interferes with/is detrimental to a club sponsored activity (e.g. club trip, club camp, Wobbler).
  • The race date clashes with a Club organised race.
  • There are circumstances beyond the committee’s control, for example cancellation of race, a non-permit, in which case a similar race will be substituted.

Ownership of trophies will remain the property of Somer Athletic Club and must be returned within 2 weeks of the Club’s annual Presentation evening. Damage or loss of trophies must be rectified by the recipient.

These will be presented at the Clubs’ annual awards presentation evening in January.

All runners compete in races at their own risk.

REMEMBER – Club vests must be worn at all races!!
