Juniors

Juniors

Who are we? We operate as the Junior section of Somer Athletic Club, Midsomer Norton.

What do we do? We run fun & friendly athletics sessions for children of all abilities, aged 8-12 years or Y4 to Y7/8.  We train every Thursday (Term time only) from 7.30 pm - 8.30 pm. All our sessions are run by qualified coaches, trained to England Athletics/UKA standards (LIRF, CA & AC). The current maximum number we allow per session is 34, with a minimum of three coaches in attandace at all times.

Where do we meet? We meet at Chilcompton Sports, Chilcompton (nr Radstock). The facilities include the hardcourts & grass areas (during Spring & Summer months), with full access to toilets.  Some sessions do run off-site during the Autumn/Winter months, but always within a 1-2 mile radius of this site. All run information will be shared.

How do we do it? We use the certified, England Athletics 'Athletics 365' scheme of 'Run, Jump & Throw' for coaching young athletes at club level. This provides sound & appropriate coaching practices for young athletes, supporting their future development. We aim to put the ‘FUN’ into FUNdamentals! We also take part in local races & club events!

How do we find out about the sessions? All our sessions are managed via the ClubPal (link below). Membership is by invitation only, this is to keep our young athletes safe & manage our high demand for places.

Is there Waiting List? Yes, unfortunately there is. We currently aim for a maximum waiting period of 6-9 months, from the point of registration.

Do I keep my place? Yes, your child's place is guaranteed once registered, until you decide otherwise or your child exceeds the age limit of 13 years. If a period of non-attendance does occur, we will contact you to make sure all is well.

What happens when my child reaches the age of 12? They have the opportunity to progress, to our Somer Youth group. Youth sessions take place at the same time as Juniors.

What does it cost? We charge just £2 per session (members),  £3 per session (non-members) & £15 Annual membership. The weekly subs are paid in block season bookings (Autumn, Spring & Summer), as per school term times using ClubPal.

What do they need to bring? Simple, a water bottle, trainers (worn) & a warm hoodie or coat in colder weather.

My child is not yet old enough? No problem! We do operate a waiting list, so please register your interest & we can add your details. The sooner you register, the sooner you will get a place.

What do I do now? If you would like more information or have a question? Please contact us directly via the club or contact Keith directly via email: kcsomerac@gmail.com.
