The Jean Meredith Bursary

Jean was a well loved member of Somer AC since its beginning. Few weeks passed without Jean and husband Roy being at a club session.
Jean had a real passion for running having run in over 70 marathons around the world including London, New York, Florida, Beijing, Boston, Moscow, Barbados, Athens, Dublin and Vienna to name but a few.

She raised over £250,000 for various charities including Clic Sargent who helped one of her grandchildren in recent years. Jean was honoured by the Queen at Buckingham Palace and was a flame carrier for the 2012 Olympics games.

Following Jean’s death in 2023, Somer AC has created an annual bursary in her memory for Youth and Junior athletes. Applications for equipment or other expenses can be submitted for consideration by the committee. Funding the development of Somer’s Youth and Junior athletes is something that Jean would have approved of.
