Seniors - yes...we do even more
5km Time Trial On the first Tuesday of each month, we hold a 5 km time trial - a race between you and the clock, running as fast a time as possible. Running at your maximum sustainable effort from start to finish, it provides a benchmark to gauge progress whilst enabling you to sharpen your race skills and test pacing whilst building mental resilience. During the summer months, we leave Westfield Trading Estate and head to the Colliers Way cycle path towards Kilmersdon; a steady 2.5km climb before a rewarding run downhill. Oh, and we always have drinks and treats to reward you at the end!

Tempo A tempo run is the fastest pace you can run consistently without becoming overly tired. That means… breathing is strong and steady, though you can talk in short phrases not full sentences. We run for about an hour, reflecting the pace you can consistently achieve in a 10km race, structuring sessions into blocks of time with a short recovery. This helps build both speed and endurance.

Trail Runs We have some beautiful countryside that we like to explore. During the year, we have many trail runs that allow us to enjoy the beautiful scenery…though we also don our headtorches in winter and have some off road run fun in the dark.

Track Sessions We have monthly sessions at the University of Bath that are great fun and suitable for everyone. Being based on personal effort rather strict pacing means that runners of all abilities can take part in mixed pace interval sessions. We’re joined by our good friends from Frome Running Club making it a great opportunity to train in a supportive atmosphere with excellent facilities.
Mona Fartlek A short and sharp workout to build speed endurance, this variation on a fartlek was created by Australian distance-running legend Steve Moneghetti. Whilst the structure is fixed, the intensity is based on feel making it useful for runners at many levels, and is a favourite at our Bath Uni track sessions as well as in Westfield.

Speed Sessions These are varied sessions with shorter bursts of activity. As well as being great fun, adding some speed work to your running helps with all your runs. As well as making you faster, you become more efficient and able to hold a strong pace by improving your aerobic capacity, meaning you can use more oxygen more quickly. They may also include some team elements, like relays or “meet and retreats” and whilst Westfield is a regular winter venue, we do like to move to the sports field at Norton Hill in the lighter evenings.

These are all booked via ClubPal (link below) and cost £2 per week (discounts available with the purchase of pre-paid passes) for members and £3 per session for non members. We offer a free 1 week pass for new runners so come and give it a try.

* - Certain sessions, such as track sessions, time trials or cross country runs, may be undertaken at other locations; please check individual session meeting points on ClubPal. Some special sessions may incur an additional charge.
